SILENT KILLER

Written by Carmela Jane Name

“No man is an island”.

Since we are kids, it is always the very exact quote that people around us tells us. We are all living in a world where all of us depend on the society where we live in. Most of the time, the way on how we interact, the way dressed ourselves, and sometimes even the way we smile was controlled by the people around us. With that, it is undeniable that our freedom was dictated by the society. With this kind of freedom that everyone are allowed to enjoy, it happened that most of us overpower it. Overpowering one’s freedom may affect the people around us and it can harm them in terms of lot of aspect. If we try to move outside our house, we can encounter hundred thousands of people, as we walk on our way we can encounter different types of them. One may look nerdy but is really a professional one, one may look professional but has a different personality than what we are expecting him/her. In such case, we have to observe everyone around us before making a conclusion.

Besides that, we don't have any right to judge them based on what they looked like, their preferred gender and their social status. We do not know what they have been through and the challenges they face in their everyday life. Just like to the people we encounter on the street, throwing them harsh words with which we think it is nice on our point of view maybe because it is fun to do so or we make the people around us laugh that does not mean that it is good. It is still a crime to make people lose their self-confident and gain self-pity because of that one action that we take. It may make us laugh for a second but it will make an impact into the person we used to do the crime or the street harassment for the rest of his/her life. We may not noticed that is affects them the moment we harass them but it is surely and silently killing them in the inside. With that, we have to make an action, and that is to make ourselves a good example to make people around us to the same thing as we do. Who would have done the best thing to ourselves is the exact person we saw on the mirror. We cannot look for something we do not have at the first place. So be a street protector not just for yourself, for your family but also for the people who look after you.
